Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents are the best teachers. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Throughout my life, I have been lucky enough to have a very good relationship with my parents. They have supported me, given me necessary criticism, and taught me a great deal about how to live my life. Parents can be very important teachers in our lives; however, they are not always the best teachers.
Parents may be too close to their children emotionally. Sometimes they can only see their children though the eyes of a protector. For example, they may limit a childs freedom in the name of safety. A teacher might see a trip to a big city as a valuable new experience. However, it might seem too dangerous to a parent.
Another problem is that parents may expect their childrens interests to be similar to their own. They cant seem to separate from their children in their mind. If they love science, they may try to force their child to love science too. But what if their childs true love is art, or writing, or car repair?
Parents are usually eager to pass on their value to their children. But should children always believe what their parents do? Maybe different generations need different ways of thinking. When children are young, they believe that their parents are always rights. But when they get older, they realize there are other views. Sometimes parents, especially older ones, cant keep up with rapid social or technology changes. A student who has friends of all different races and backgrounds at school may find that her parents dont really understand or value the digital revolution. Sometimes kids have to find their own ways to what they believe in.
The most important thing to realize is that we all have many teachers in our lives. Our parents teach us, our teachers teach us, and our peers teach us. Books and newspapers and television also teach us. All of them are valuable.

It has been said, "Not every thing that is learned is contained in books." Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?
"Experience is the best teacher" is an old cliché, but I agree with it. The most important, and sometimes the hardest, lessons we learn in life come from our participation in situations. You can learn everything from a book.
Of course, learning from books in a formal educational setting is also valuable. Its in schools that we learn the information we need to function in our society. We learn how to speak and write and understand mathematical equations. This is all information that we need to live in our communities and earn a living.
Nevertheless, I think that the most important lessons cant be taught; they have to be experienced. No one can teach us how to get along with others or how to have self-respect. As we grow from children into teenagers, no one can teach us how to deal with peer pressure. As we leave adolescence behind and enter adult life, no one can teach us how to fall in love and get married.
This shouldnt stop us from looking for guidelines along the way. Teachers and parents are valuable sources of advice when were young. As we enter into new stages in our lives, the advice we receive from them is very helpful because they have already bad similar experiences. But experiencing our own triumphs and disasters is really the only way to learn how to deal with life.

From then until now, the influence ofschool masterson students has been on the decline due largely totwo factors: themodern family and the information technology . It was then when young people respected their mastersas well as theirparents; and when the computer and with it the Internet did not exist. And it is now when that which is called tradition is apparentlymissing, even ifteaching may remain an art.
On the one hand, teachers were traditionally stricter at school; so were parents at home. Suchdevelopmentbegan with thewillingsuspension of parents authority over children.Thiscan be seen in the way how parents obey their children. Although this changeis not exactlythe case with teachers, mostloving Moms andDads tend torecommendthat under no circumstance should teachersbetoo harsh or tough with their spoiled offspring.Consequently,in partbecause oflack ofpower authorized by parents, andin partbecause oftodayslax regulations related to school disciplines,a masterhad betterthink twice beforeusing any punishment asthe ultimate method to teacha pupilto distinguish betweenrightand wrong, or toturn a juvenile delinquent into a solid citizen. Accordingly, the influence of a teacherthat used to be is gone with the windlike that of a parent.
On the other hand, the advancement of information technology has changed the image of a teacher as an influential Mr. or Ms. Know-all. To illustrate, the averageeducator is losing the traditionalimage of an academic authoritysince the Internetis capable ofproviding knowledge and answering questions, and probably even more efficiently. It is because what a teacher writes on the blackboard caneasily beaccessible onthe computer screen. So much so, teachersare likely to becomethose professionals who make themselves progressively "unnecessary." Likewise, theonce-upon-a-timeinfluenceassociated withinterpreting the textbooks to studentsis rapidly giving way to powerful Web pages, many of them being absolutely extra-curriculum. Jokinglyand yetrealistically, though, one would open ones Facebook than "Face ones Book."
It may thereforebe concluded that, although teachingneeds to be an art,the young peoples regard for teachers is a lost tradition. There is little doubt thatin the pastmasters had more influence on students than they do today, and this negative trend hasonly the parents and the Internet to blame.

At first glance, this statement may sound plausible because except from personal contact, everyother forms of communication, including telephones and emails, are indirect ways ofcommunication. But shall we get a conclusion that telephones and email have madecommunication between people less personal? To answer this question, we should look at thefollowing points:
First, telephone and email are more efficient ways of communication. Telephones and email arebecoming more and more important for us today. We use telephones for conversations to ourfriends and family; we use email to transfer important information and documents, even photo andmulti-media files. With a phone, we can order services and make enquires regarding a servicewithout physically present in the place, this will save us so much time and energy. In time ofemergencies, when it is impossible for us to physically go to a police station or a hospital, we cansimply call 911, a emergency vehicle will come to us in ten minutes. Imagine how hard it will befor us if we do not have access to a telephone under emergency situations.
Second, telephones and email increase the chances that people communicate. Although face-to-face personal contact is more close and intimate than making phone calls or sending emails, weactually do not have much time to visit each other. Furthermore, people have their own privatelife. Sometimes they do not want to be disturbed by visitors. A phone call or an email message isalways the most proper and courteous way to make contact with people, and are not restrained bytime or occasions. For example, during the Chinese New Years, more and more people makephone calls to our friends and folks, or send electronic cards through email, wishing them a happynew year, instead of actually travel to their friends’ house to make a visit.
In conclusion, telephones and email are convenient ways to communicate and can actually increase the communication between people. They maybe less personal, but they are surely moreeffective means of communication.

In 1990, new rules and guidelines were adopted in the United Kingdom that has changed the whole field of Archaeology in that country. The new guidelines improved the situation in all there areas discussed in the passage.
First, the new guidelines state that before any construction project can start, the construction site has to be examined by archaeologists to see whether the site is of archaeological interest or value. If the site is of archaeological interest, the next step is for the builders, archaeologists and local government officials to get together and make a plan for preserving the archaeological artifacts, either by building around them or by excavating and documenting them properly before the construction is allowed to proceed.
Second, an important part of the new guidelines is a rule that any archaeological work done on the construction site will be paid for by the construction company not by the government. The construction company has to pay for the initial examination of the site, and then for all the work carried out under the preservation plan. This is a whole new source of financial support. The funding from construction companies has allowed researchers to study a far greater range of archaeological sites than they could in the past.
Last, the new guidelines provide a lot of paid work for archaeologists, work that didn’t exist before. Expert archaeologists are now hired at all stages of the process to examine the site for archaeological value, then to help draw up the preservation plan to do the research in a professional scientific manner and finally to process the date and write reports and articles. The increased job and career opportunities in Archaeology have increased the number of professional archaeologists in Britain, which is now the highest it’s ever been.

Modern society places a lot of emphasis on success. Though success is clearly desirable, I think our intense focus on success is unhealthy and counterproductive. People would be better served by learning how to adopt a positive attitude towards failure.
First of all, this would allow them to live more fulfilling lives. Studies have shown that the fulfillment brought by success is very fleeting. While you may feel great for a little while after, your mood will quickly drop back to normal levels. The road to success is paved with setbacks; even if you do eventually achieve your goals, if you are unable to experience the failures positively, you will have actually experienced a net decrease in happiness. It is thus important to remain happy and optimistic through failure, because while failure comes inevitably and often, success does not.
Second of all, focusing too much on success will hurt your relationships with others, whereas learning to enjoy failure will actually improve your relationships with others. This is particularly true of working in a team. For one class project, I had to work in a team led by someone who only cared about success. We didn’t pursue any unusual ideas, and mistakes were criticized harshly. The team did fairly well, but by the end everybody hated working on the assignment. The leader’s attitude rubbed off on all of us: nobody wanted to take risks, and setbacks weighed heavy on all of us. This was in contrast to my friend’s group, which had a much more open-minded leader. She encouraged the team to test unconventional ideas, and any time they hit a roadblock, they took it as an opportunity to rethink their approach. After the project was over they all remained friends, and they even received a better grade than us.
This leads me to my final point: enjoying failure and de-emphasizing success will paradoxically make you more apt to succeed. This is because success hinges on consistent progress, and consistent progress can only come from continuously challenging your abilities and risking failure. Michael Jordan once said that his success came from failing over and over—that he had missed thousands of shots on his path to greatness. He was able to get better because he was eager to see where his deficiencies lay and figure out how to address them. This is the common thread we see in all successful people: they are all happy to fail, because failures open up opportunities for improvement.
Most people fail more often than they succeed. Thus, in order to live a fulfilling life, we should learn to approach failure positively. This will not only improve our relationships, but also make success more likely.

People would be much happier if they are doing different types of tasks during their workday than doing the same task.
With the rapid shifts of metropolises, the importance of happiness has been increasingly emphasized by the public. When people are commenting whether workers would be much happier if they are doing different types of tasks during their workday than doing the same task or not, people’s opinions are diverse. With my careful consideration, I personally consent to the perspective that workers would be much happier if they are doing different types of tasks during their workday than doing the same task. My thesis could be circumstantiated by the following two reasons. Firstly, doing different types of tasks can help people gain more knowledge to be happier. Secondly, doing different types of tasks can increase working efficiency to make people happier.
Firstly, taking the advantage of dealing with various kinds of tasks, people can easily learn diverse aspects of lore, which capacitates them to be contented. As we all know, people can be more confident and earn more respect when they feel that they are more knowledgeable than others. In fact, people who possess more knowledge could gain a more trustworthy impression to others. Because of that, doing multiple types of tasks can help them to earn more prestige to increase the degree of happiness. For example, while my friend Sherlock teaches three subjects in a university, obtaining a bright mood every day after gaining more knowledge than other colleagues who major in one subject, my colleague Mycroft always becomes gloomy dealing with the routine work of being an officer. As a result, Sherlock is optimistic for his daily work, but Mycroft is not willing to work and finally left his position. In conclusion, it is necessary to do different types of work to maintain a sanguine mood.
Secondly, without the interfering of being bored, people can accomplish the work using little time which can help them gain the sense of achievement and happiness. Engaging a single task could inevitably encounter the monotony of tediousness, which embosses the advantage of tasking on multiple jobs. When people doing plethora of tasks simultaneously, the body would reaction this pressure with dopamine secretion which is a substance for improving the level of excitement during the performance. That is to say, the more tasks that people are engaging in, the higher excitement that people would achieve, which becomes the cause of the hyper-status during work. For instance, while my cousin John Watson, dealing with all kinds of works for his own company, can complete the tasks in several hours because of the excitement of new challenges; his secretary Mr. Holmes, majoring in storing documents, spends several days finishing a simple publicizing document. In the end, John Watson gained great sense of achievements for his efficient work, however, Mr. Holmes is shame of himself for his terrible work. All in all, it is obvious that people can be happier by doing different types of tasks simultaneously.
With the content aforementioned, my thesis could be supported by two reasons which are learning more knowledge and increasing working efficiency. Thus, it is appropriate to draw the conclusion that both two reasons could make my thesis reasonable and well-supported. When people are commenting this issue, it is not supported to be forgotten what a famous Japanese claims Difference creates happiness.

While eating in restaurants is fast, the money you spend can add up. When I have dinner at a restaurant with a friend, the bill is usually over twenty dollars. I can buy a lot of groceries with that much money. Even lunch at a fast-food stand usually costs five or six dollars for one person. Thats enough to feed the whole family at home.
Eating at home is better for you, too. Meals at restaurants are often high in fat and calories, and they serve big plates of food-much more food-than you need to eat at one meal. If you cook food at home, you have more control over the ingredients. You can use margarine(Margarine is a yellow substance made from vegetable oil and animal fats that is similar to butter. You spread it on bread or use it for cooking.)instead of butter on your potatoes, or not put so much cheese on top of your pizza. At home, you can control your portion size. You can serve yourself as little as you want. In a restaurant, you may eat a full plate of food "because you paid for it."
Its true that eating out is convenient. You dont have to shop, or cook, or clean up. But real home cooking doesnt have to take up a lot of time. There are lots of simple meals that dont take long to make. In fact, theyre faster than eating out, especially if you think of the time you spend driving to a restaurant, parking, waiting for a table, waiting for service, and driving home.
Both eating at restaurants and cooking at home can be satisfying. Both can taste good and be enjoyed with family and friends. I prefer cooking at home because of the money and health issues, but people will make the choice that fits their lifestyle best.
In the modern life now, more and more people prefer to eat at food stands or restaurants. They think that will save time so that they can have enough time to do their jobs. But I still prefer to prepare and eat food at home. There several reasons. First of all, you can save money if you eat at home. In general, to get profit, the restaurants ask for more money on the same food you cook at home. That is the waste of money. To save money, you may prefer to prepare you food at home with less money. The second, usually, the food in the restaurants is not what you are expecting. you may dislike the way the restaurant cook the same dishes as you do at home. For example, the other day, I asked for potato in a restaurant. After the first bite, I thought it was so awful. My mom never cooked such potato for me! The bad lunch even destroyed my mood in that day. The third, if you prepare food by yourself, you will have a happy mood when you eat it, regardless of the real savorof the food. It goes a saying well "labor brings happiness".In addition, you can change your method of cooking considering your taste on that day. The reasons above may can answer why I prefer to eat food at home. Cooking even has bee my hobby now. Come back and have your delicious food, Im sure you will like it!:)
Nowadays, some people like to eat at home and prepare food for themselves, but others have a negative attitude that they prefer to eat out side in restaurant or at foodstands. As far as I am concerned, it is better to eat at home. There are numerous reasons why I hold on, and I would explore only a few primary ones here. I t cannot be denied that there is some advantage to the first points. Firstly, the condition of the restaurant is more fortable and the food of there is more delicious usually. Then eating in restaurant bee a good choice of getting together with friends. In addition, eat outside take people convenience and shortcut. For the people who are busy on working, prepare food for themselves will make troubles and waste time. For the young person who are not able to cook for themselves, eat at foodstands resolve the problem.
The main reason for my propensity(A propensity to do something or a propensity for something is a natural tendency that you have to behave in a particular way.)for eating at home is that eat at home and prepare food for themselves can enhance the emotion among the member of family and bring pleasure to everyone. In modern society, everyday, parents are busy on working and sociality, and children are busy on study and playing. For convenience and saving time, they often chooce eat outside. Then there left so few time of them to share. Sharing the dinner at home is not only eating but also provide a chance to talking, making joke and exchange feeling with each other. Maybe someone think that make dinner is a heavy burden. But I believe prepare food with family is also a happy, likely have dinner with family is a pleasure. With your sisters and brothers help your mother do a meal in weekend, and enjoy the food ,and you will feel everything is so nice. Another reason is that I think that eat at home is more economical than go to restaurant and save money. Using the same number of money you can buy more and better food from shop than from restaurant. You can do nourishing mealfor your children rather than the junk food from foodstands. And you can spend the saved money on many the other way, such as buy new clothes and see a movie. Generally speaking, eat outside is fortable and convenient to our live, while eat at home can share happy with family. Taking into account of all these, I prefer to prepare food for ourselves and eat at home.
