  In 1909 an English newspaper offered 1,000 to the first man to fly across the English Channel in an aeroplane. Today, modern jets cross it in minutes. But at that time it still seemed a good distance. The race to win the money soon became a race between two men. Both were very colourful.

  One was Louis Bleriot. He owned a factory in France that made motor car lamps. He was already well known as a pilot (飛行員) because he had had accidents several times. Some people laughed at him. One man said, “He may not be the first to fly across the Channel but he will certainly be the first to die in an accident!” But Bleriot was really a good and brave pilot. He also had many good ideas about aeroplane design.

  The other man was Hubert Latham. He was half French and half English. He took up flying when his doctors told him he had only a year to live. “Oh, well,” he said, “if I’ m going to die soon, I think I shall have a dangerous and interesting life now.” Latham was the first to try the flight (飛行) across the Channel. Ten kilometres from the French coast, his plane had some trouble. It fell down into the water and began to sink under the water. A boat reached Latham just in time. He was sitting calmly on the wing and was coolly lighting a cigarette (香煙). Bleriot took off six days later. He flew into some very bad weather and very low cloud. He somehow got to the English side and landed in a farmer’s field. When he did so, a customs (海關(guān)) officer rushed up to his plane.   其實(shí)此類(lèi)方法分兩種,一種是只看題不看選項(xiàng),即大致看看問(wèn)題,然后帶著問(wèn)題再看文章;另一種是將題干和所有選擇項(xiàng)看完,再看文章。第一種的優(yōu)點(diǎn)是節(jié)約時(shí)間,缺點(diǎn)是由于不看選項(xiàng),對(duì)于細(xì)節(jié)缺乏必要的把握,同樣要返回文章找尋關(guān)鍵點(diǎn),而且定位的時(shí)候沒(méi)有精確的坐標(biāo);第二個(gè)就相對(duì)而言科學(xué)很多,優(yōu)點(diǎn)是明了要重點(diǎn)注意的目標(biāo)信息,有很好閱讀的針對(duì)性,缺點(diǎn)是相對(duì)讀文章的時(shí)間少了,難免斷章取義缺少宏觀的把握,容易陷入干擾選項(xiàng)設(shè)置的陷阱之中。

  這種方法較以上兩種更為全面和嚴(yán)謹(jǐn),而我建議每位同學(xué)們練習(xí)這種方法,養(yǎng)成很好的閱讀習(xí)慣。

  這種方法即先看懂各段首尾句或短文的第一段,大致明了文章的主題。此后細(xì)細(xì)地閱讀題干推敲選項(xiàng)的大致設(shè)置,思考作者的行文規(guī)律和命題者的出題陷阱,然后帶著已經(jīng)在首尾句獲得的信息和在題目中假設(shè)的思路回頭進(jìn)行有目的性的查找工作,準(zhǔn)確率高且耗時(shí)相對(duì)較少。而我們現(xiàn)在的高考閱讀文章均取自國(guó)內(nèi)外的英文刊物,少有命題組自行行文的類(lèi)型,此類(lèi)文章邏輯嚴(yán)謹(jǐn),結(jié)構(gòu)清晰,所以氣定神閑地先讀完各段的首句再耐心的推敲考題選項(xiàng)的設(shè)置,往往會(huì)直接將四個(gè)選支排除掉一個(gè)或兩個(gè),這無(wú)疑對(duì)我們的解題幫助極大,減少了我們判斷的壓力輕松地將文章讀完。
