3RD PERSON: Mmmm?
GEOFF: Can you tell me how to get to Angel Place?
3RD PERSON: Angel Place? I'm not sure... no, sorry.
GEOFF: O.K. Thanks.

4TH PERSON: Oh, you're new to Sydney, then?
GEOFF: Yes. I'm from Albury.
4TH PERSON: Well, it's the first on the right. And Angel Place is in the second block, next tothe bank.
GEOFF: I'm with you. Thanks.
4TH PERSON: That's O.K.

in the second block 過一條橫馬路;在馬路那邊(block是指兩條平行街道之間馬路一側(cè)的建筑群，中文里沒有相應(yīng)的詞。)
next to the bank 銀行旁邊
You're new to Sydney, then 那你準(zhǔn)是第一次來(lái)悉尼吧。(then表示說話人得出了一個(gè)結(jié)論。)

FINDING THE WAY 問路
向人問路和回答別人問路有好幾種比較普通的說法：
(Excuse me) Can you telt me where Angel Place is?
Sorry, I'm afraid I don't. know.
Do you know where Angel Place is?
Sorry I don't.
Can you tell me how to get to Angel Place?
I'm not sure…no, sorry(I can't).
I'm looking for Angel Place. Can you help me?
Yes,I can. It's off George Street.
And where's George Street?
It's the first (street) on the right.
注意：
在問別人問題之前，也許需要說句話引起對(duì)方注意�？梢哉fExcuse me，但不說Sorry。Sorry這個(gè)詞用于道歉。不用來(lái)向人招呼。
注意下列各組兩個(gè)問句不同的語(yǔ)序：
Where is Angel Place? (Where's Angel Place?)
Can you tell me where Angel Place is?
Where is she?
Can you tell me where she is?
Why are they laughing?
Do you know why they are laughing?
注意下列兩個(gè)問句不同的語(yǔ)序和用詞：
Where does he work?
Do you know where he works?
向人問路不能…開始就問 (And)
Where's George Street?這類問題。這樣問顯得突然，甚至粗魯，通常要在前面加個(gè)套語(yǔ)Can you tell me等。
答句It's the first (street) on the right中，street可以省略，因?yàn)榍懊娴膯柧淅镆呀?jīng)提到這個(gè)詞了。
CONVERSATIONAL DEVICE
a) Let me see 讓我想想。
在回答別人的問題以前說這句話是想留出一點(diǎn)時(shí)間來(lái)考慮一下。
b) I'm with you 我知道了;我聽著呢;我聽清楚了。
ARONUNCIATION CORNER
a) Can只是在簡(jiǎn)短的回‘答里重讀，即讀作[kæn]，單獨(dú)念時(shí)也可重讀。此外不需重讀，讀[kən]即可。例如：
I can help you[ai kən 'helpju:]
Yes,I can['jes ai 'kæn]
b)下面問句中有兩點(diǎn)值得注意：
Can you tell me how to get to Angel Place?
(i)問句的節(jié)奏，以重音符號(hào)標(biāo)明。請(qǐng)練習(xí)一下。一邊讀，一邊打拍子。
(ii) To的不同發(fā)音：[tə]和[tu:]后面的詞以元音開始，to讀作[tu:]同時(shí)再加一個(gè)[w]連接音。練習(xí)下面的詞組，注意[w]這個(gè)連接音。
to Angel Place
To后面的詞以輔音開始，to讀作[tə]，
例如：to get[tə get]
第四部分：練習(xí)
先看圖，然后填充下列句子。
1.The music shop is in......Street, which is the first street......the......
2.Go to the next corner, turn left and the music shop is.... .... second .......right

3.My office is……Pitt Street.... .... the Star Cinema and not far...... the music shop.
