Helen: Hello, welcome to Real English from BBC Learning English. I’m Helen.
Oliver: 嗨，我是Oliver。
Helen: Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary.
Oliver: 地道英語(yǔ)和大家一起學(xué)習(xí)現(xiàn)代英式英語(yǔ)中經(jīng)常出現(xiàn)的流行詞匯和實(shí)用表達(dá)。那Helen,今天給我們帶來(lái)的新詞是什么呢?
Helen: Today we are going to concentrate on one word.
Oliver: 就一個(gè)詞兒, excellent。
Helen: It has several uses though. The word is handy, h-a-n-d-y, handy.
Oliver: 這個(gè)詞兒和手有關(guān)， hand. Handy 在手這個(gè)字的'后邊多了一個(gè)字母Y。
Helen: Often people talk about someone who is handy with something. That means this person is good at doing something, for example fixing cars.
Oliver: 也就是說，handy在這里是做什么事情很拿手，很在行的意思。你舉的例子是有人修車很在行，就可以用handy。
Helen: Yes, my friend Keith likes cars very much and he’s good at fix problems in them, so he’s very handy with cars.
Oliver: 讓我們聽一個(gè)例子。

A: There’s something wrong with my computer, it keeps shutting down after 10 minutes.
B: Why don’t you give Jason a call? He’s really handy with computers.
A: Thanks, I’ll give him a ring now.
Oliver: Helen, 你說過 handy這個(gè)詞兒還有其它的意思。
Helen: Yes, handy could also mean convenient.
Oliver: 有方便的意思。
Helen: For example, I always find it handy to have a pen with me.

A: It’s too dark to see the keyhole.
B: Hang on, I’ve got a little torch on my key ring.
A: Oh, that’s handy.
Oliver: 好啦，我們今天學(xué)到的詞兒是handy，這個(gè)詞兒有兩個(gè)基本意思，一個(gè)意思是某人做什么事情很拿手，很在行，另外一個(gè)意思是方便。
