Get off the doggie's tail. 直譯過來就是：“放過狗尾巴”，顯然不能這樣望文生義，這個句子的正確意思是：“得饒人處且饒人，放別人一馬”。因此，當美國人說"Get off the doggie's tail."時，他/她要表達的意思就是:"Let him off."、"Let's forgive him if possible."、"Let's be lenient whenever it is possible."。
