第一部分對(duì)話：談?wù)撎鞖?/strong>
在這一講里，你將聽(tīng)到幾段短小的對(duì)話。聽(tīng)的時(shí)候，請(qǐng)集中精力聽(tīng)，盡可能不看下面的材料。

can you tell me when the next bus due? 請(qǐng)問(wèn)下一趟車什么時(shí)候到?
Excuse 對(duì)不起。
(這句話用來(lái)引起別人的注意，例如在這一講里就是這樣用的。在人多的地方請(qǐng)人騰出位子或讓路也可以說(shuō)這句話。)
I'd better go 我得走了
I must fly 我馬上得走
It might rain later 可能要下雨
It's a bit chilly 天氣有點(diǎn)涼
It's getting late 時(shí)間不早了
It's warmer than (yesterday/last week,etc.) 今天比(昨天/上星期等等)暖和

What do you do for a living? 你是干什么工作的?(for a living本來(lái)是謀生的意思。)
ah 發(fā)這個(gè)聲音有時(shí)侯表示講話前的猶豫。
mm 這個(gè)聲音表示“讓我想想”的意思。

第三部分：課程
1. ASKING STRANGERS FOR INFORMATION 向陌生人打聽(tīng)情況
向陌生人打聽(tīng)情況可以用好幾種客套話，最普通的是：
引起 + 表示請(qǐng)求+ 要打聽(tīng)
對(duì)方注意 + 的套話+ 的情況
Excuse me + can you + when...
Excuse me + can you + what...
Excuse me + can you + how... etc,
EXAMPLES
Excuse me, can you tell me.
when the next bus is due?
Excuse me, can you tell me
which bus goes to the school? .
Excuse me, can you tell me
what the time is?
請(qǐng)注意上面例句里的語(yǔ)序。在“表示請(qǐng)求的套語(yǔ)”部分用疑問(wèn)句語(yǔ)序，在“要打聽(tīng)的情況”部分用陳述句語(yǔ)序。
2.MAKING SMALL TALK 閑談
有時(shí)候我們感到有必要和別人應(yīng)酬幾句，例如在公共汽車站上向一位陌生人打聽(tīng)了什么情況之后，或者在坐公共汽車、火車去上班的途中偶爾認(rèn)識(shí)了二個(gè)人之后，按理都要說(shuō)幾句話。這一類的閉談?dòng)⒄Z(yǔ)叫small talk.話題往往是“中性”的，就是說(shuō)無(wú)關(guān)緊要的，而且很少牽涉到個(gè)人。最普通的一個(gè)話題是天氣。在這種談話里，常用反意疑問(wèn)句(question tags)，要求對(duì)方作出反應(yīng)，使談話不致中斷。
EXAMPLES
A: Hot (day/morning etc.), isn't it?
B: Yes, it is./Yes, it is isn't it?/Yes, isn't it?
A: It was cold (last night yesterday), wasn't it?
B: Yes it was./Yes, it was, wasn't it?/Yes wasn't it?
3. GETTING TO KNOW A PERSON BETTER 進(jìn)一步了解對(duì)方的情況
了解對(duì)方的工作情況，可以這樣問(wèn)：
What do you do for a living?
Where do you work?
Do you like your job?
4. BRINGING A CONVERSATION TO AN END 結(jié)束談話
在說(shuō)goad-bye之前，有不少的詞句可以用來(lái)引導(dǎo)，例如：
I'd better go/I have to go (now)/ It's getting late/I must fly.

這一講里有三個(gè)語(yǔ)音問(wèn)題，請(qǐng)你在聽(tīng)廣播時(shí)注意：
a)下列各詞語(yǔ)第一個(gè)音節(jié)需重讀：
manager elephant yesterday isn't it
b) 一個(gè)詞最后一個(gè)輔音和下一個(gè)詞開(kāi)頭的元音連讀，例如：
It's a nice day.isn't it?
c) 一個(gè)詞最后一個(gè)元音和下一個(gè)詞開(kāi)頭的元音連讀，例如： ’
It's a nice day,isn't it?
連讀過(guò)程中有一個(gè)微弱的[j]音把兩者連接起來(lái)。
