“西部大開發(fā)”(Western Development)是中國促進經(jīng)濟發(fā)展的一項重要政策。自從實行改革開放的政策以來,尤其是中國東南沿海城市的經(jīng)濟特區(qū)(special economic zone)設(shè)立以來,中國經(jīng)濟發(fā)展迅速。然而,由于位置偏遠、交通落后、與其他地區(qū)交流不足,中國西部地區(qū)在經(jīng)濟、文化、人民生活水平等方面不夠發(fā)達。為了解決地區(qū)間發(fā)展的不平衡,中國開展了“西部大開發(fā)”運動,在引進人才和投資等方面給予西部地區(qū)優(yōu)惠 (preferential)政策。目前“西部大開發(fā)"的成就顯著,東西部地區(qū)的差距正逐漸縮小。

1.第一句中的定語“促進經(jīng)濟發(fā)展的”較長,故將其處理為后置定語修飾“重要政策”,翻譯時,可譯為現(xiàn)在分詞短語或定語從句,此外“促進經(jīng)濟發(fā)展”是該項政策的目的因此宜增譯短語aim at,譯作aiming at promoting economicdevelopment 或 which aims at…。
